There are currently a proliferation of Government and quasi-Government websites throughout the Pilbara, each with their own style elements and data sets. In many cases, these have not been refreshed in a considerable period of time, do not necessarily contain accurate or up-to-date information, and in some cases are locked to the site owners due to residual IP issues. Where websites are developed and maintained for the region, they come at a considerable premium due to the relative unavailability of local resources, and the perception that the Pilbara ‘can afford it’.
The Pilbara Regional Council has taken the initiative and commissioned a project to offer each of the Visitor Centres in the region a contemporary website, using location-specific data but built on a common and industry-standard platform. The Pilbara Regional Council has further offered to host all of the required infrastructure for these sites over a three-year period, including quarterly audits to ensure that the site data remains current and accurate.
