Payroll processing has increasingly become a commoditised service that is essentially transactional in nature but carries significant governance and operating risk. Providing access to quality and timely professional development for payroll officers remains a challenge in the Pilbara, as does offering access to sophisticated new technologies that allow employees to self-manage many aspects of their employment.
Recent studies by KPMG and the Futures Group suggest that there are several opportunities to leverage economies of scale to offset some of the particular challenges of delivering local government administrative services in the Pilbara region. One of these opportunities was identified as a central approach towards the delivery of payroll processing.
The Pilbara Regional Council has commissioned a business case to examine this option in detail, working with the Shire of Roebourne to model a range of potential scenarios for consideration.
