The Pilbara Regional Council is undertaking a detailed analysis of the impacts of the resources sector on the capacity of Pilbara Local Governments to fund and maintain their road network, with a view to identifying alternate funding arrangements or improvement in the equity of current funding arrangements. The analysis encompasses an understanding of the road network and its users, an understanding of the variety of funding contribution towards all roads in the Pilbara, and an identification of areas where there are insufficient resources being applied to ensure that the rod network is of a standard that meets users’ needs for safe and efficient transportation.
