Whilst important to the effective and efficient management of any organisation, payroll is a highly compliance driven and task oriented activity. Studies by KPMG and the Futures Group identified opportunities to leverage economies of scale to offset some of the challenges of delivering local government services in the Pilbara. One of these opportunities was a centralised approach to the delivery of payroll processing services. Processing payroll
can be readily and reliably conducted from outside the region, freeing existing HR staff to focus on higher-value duties. This reduces the risk associated with changing superannuation and other statutory requirements by ensuring that a pool of appropriately trained talent is maintained within a central processing facility. This allows for the introduction of more efficient payroll business systems and ensures more accurate payments. In operation since 2014, this project provides efficiency gains and cost reductions through economies of scale.
