Welcome to the Home Page of the Pilbara Regional Council

The Pilbara Regional Council is a statutory local government under the Western Australian Local Government Act 1995. The Member Councils that formed the Pilbara Regional Council are the Shires of Ashburton, East Pilbara and Roebourne and the Town of Port Hedland.

The Pilbara Regional Council exists to add value and benefits to the services provided by its Member Councils to the Pilbara community, industries and visitors.

While each of the Member Councils focuses on their specific local needs and interests, the Pilbara Regional Council focuses on those interests and projects that derive regional benefits to the community, industries and visitors, or improves the services provided by each of the Member Councils.

The Pilbara Regional Council works closely with its Member Councils, with the State and Commonwealth Governments, Industry and other regional peak bodies, and in particular with the Pilbara Development Commission and Pilbara Regional Development Australia.

Much of the work of the Pilbara Regional Council goes un-noticed by the Pilbara communities, industries and visitors; however, the Pilbara Regional Council is seen by the State and Commonwealth Governments as a proactive organization delivering benefits to the Pilbara. The Pilbara model of local government is also viewed by the local government industry as generally reflecting what is now considered best practice in terms of local government structure.
